I have, for quite a while, been a loyal AdSense publisher, and, on the whole I still am. That being said, eCPM's are dropping, advertisers are bidding less in a tough economy and sales just are not at record level in most of the consumer market. With that being said, publishers need to rethink their strategies.
I have decided to try out something new. In an effort to target the higher paying ads in AdSense, I am dropping one of my AdSense placements in favor of replacing it with, at this time, a Tribal Fusion placement. I am unsure how much affect this will have, as the placement I am getting rid of is currently the last to render in the page, so, theoretically it should have the lowest paying ads anyway, but now that the placements are not even on the page, it's a sure thing.
Removing that placement, and replacing it with a CPM system like Tribal Fusion at least guarantees some revenue via impressions, assuming you get high impression counts. The remaining AdSense placements will, in theory get the best targeted, highest payout ads to fill them as well.
Beyond that there is always the ever-present affiliate programs, but personally, I count on those even less than the others, as CPA pay off good when they do, but if they don't you get zero, zip, zilch, nada, nothing.
Over the course of the next few weeks, we'll see how my plan pans out. It will look bad because AdSense, my primary ad revenue source, will be less (presumably) but the over all revenue may be more, depending how Tribal Fusion, and my new ClickBank idea, pans out. Expect reports back regarding overall performance before the end of the year. It's hard to tell from day to day, as it varies so much. Aver a few weeks I can see how each day of the week performs, over all month totals and other time based trends.
